Breakdown of the brackets

Okay it all boils down to this...
If North Carolina wins, Krystee wins
If Memphis wins, Derek wins
If UCLA wins, Brent wins
If Kansas wins, it depends who they beat in the finals...
If it is a Kansas/UCLA finals Edon wins
If it is a Kansas/Memphis finals Derek wins

The only sure thing this year is Dad wont repeat as the winner.

Easter in Nauvoo

Well this is a week late, but who really cares. We had a great time in Nauvoo, meeting the Broughs on their trek across the US on a bike. When we got there on Friday it was nice and warm, we went to Carthage Jail, my favorite site. On Sat. we went to the temple a did sealings. Brent was able to have his mom sealed to her parents. He also showed me a set of keys that are in the temple, and told the story of Edon's ancestors were the keeper of the keys when the temple was burned down, they keep the keys and passed them down until the temple was rededicated when family returned the keys to the temple. That is pretty cool. After the temple we took the wagon ride and saw the sites. We toured the assembly hall where these pictures came from. The floor Edon is on is an original to the assembly hall where the Prophet drew a map to Utah and the Saints danced. I am on the stage where the production the missionaries put on. Well I know this is short but I need to get going.

March Madness

Selection Sunday is just around the corner, who is in and who is out. WCC saw San Diego knock out both Saint Mary's and Zaga. Which both were much stronger teams. The question is does the WCC deserve 3 teams or who will miss out on the big dance. The MWC tourny started last night with CSU winning the 8 v 9 play in game and will now have to face BYU at 1:00 pm MDT. On the girls side CSU who lost 20 straight, including every conference game this season beat #12 Utah in a huge upset. Once again I have set up the bracket and invite all to join.
The group is Davenport Central and unlike last year it is unlocked and open to the public, so there should be no problems accessing the group.
A couple of ground rules, One bracket per person, under Edit Entry Settings you can rename your bracket, the default setting is last name, and first letter of first name, which does no good for all the D squared out there so rename your bracket with your first name, that is the bracket that will count. If you would like to be funny and have a second bracket one of outrageous outcomes like BYU verses Oral Roberts in the finals go for it, but once again label it as a joke, we can see who of the funny brackets does the best, but it doesn't count towards the family title.

You can also subscribe to March Madness on Demand through CBS Sports and you can have access to every game online free.
If I remember correctly BigwaveDave is the returning champion from last year. Dethrone....

*******************FUEGO*******************

Last night was a little crazy in good old Summer Wood Apartments. Last night around 11:30 pm, just shortly after a comeback win in Cities and Knights against both Dad and Drew, the FIRE ALARM went off. Edon was sleeping, the was barking like the end of the world had come upon us, and I was trying to find some pants. So I gathered my family, okay they waited for me to get dress and we rushed out into the freezing sub Arctic blizzard. (More like flurries, but the story sounds better in a blizzard) During the mad rush, we all go separated, Edon and the dog went out the back door and opened it for the firemen while I rushed out the front. To give you a more accurate picture the Davenports acted like this was real fire and as we ran out of the complex our neighbors just peeked out of their peepholes. So we reunited at the meet point, our green car, as the fireman told us to go back inside. It was great. So as we returned to our home Edon was lecturing me on proper sleeping attire in case we couldn't spare the extra seconds in finding something to cover my G's.

As we crawled back into bed we could hear the fire department trucks pull away. As we start to fall asleep there is that moment when you begin the good part of deep sleep I was right at that moment when the sirens were blaring and the dog was barking and Edon screaming. So I began to locate my pants once again and being lectured on the proper sleeping attire once again. I went out...alone...to brave the Chicago blizzard...while Edon was in bed sleeping. Apparently one when the fire sprinkles go off they have this smell like natural gas, one of our neighbors who slept through the first alarm awoke to the smell of natural gas and called the fire department. The person didn't believe the firemen so around 1:30 AM the gas company was summoned to prove to the tenet that it was just the sprinkler system from the fire. Got to love living in an Apartment!!!

McClinton gets the GOP nod

With Romney out of the race and Huck nowhere near a chance to gain enough delegates to surpass the no longer running Romney, let alone try to catch Mccain. Since the FL primaries people have spoken to unite under Mccain and to accept his policies. Why should the republican party unite behind a guy who in 2001 nearly switched parties, who almost ran as VP to John Kerry? Over the past 25 years in public service McCain has an 80% conservative rating, in 2006, the latest rating he only had 64% and 72% in 2005. Over the past 8 years he has become a liberal convert. Here is a summary of the Maveriks history since 2000...

Mccain-Kennedy

Mccain said in the Cali GOP debate he wouldnt vote for the original bill that he sponsered and wrote. How do you write a bill and then say it was poorly written and not vote for it.

Mccain-Fiengold

During his election he complained of Romney's money and that the white house was not for sale. All his complaints are cented in his own bill that he spent 6 different attempts over 6 years to finally get passed.

Mccain-Liebermann

Based on Al Gores movie. Enough said! His platform does support cap and trade approach to global warming. Here are the stats that this bill would do.

McCain-Lieberman 2004 retains the mandate to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 2000 levels by 2010, but it drops the subsequent requirement to reduce emissions to 1990 levels. Charles Rivers Associates, in cooperation with the National Black Chamber of Commerce’s United for Jobs project, analyzed the projected costs of McCain-Lieberman 2004 in a study released in June. According to the study, McCain-Lieberman 2004:

*will cost the average U.S. household at least $600 per year by 2010, rising to at least $1,000 per year by 2020;
*will cost the U.S. economy at least 39,000 jobs in 2010, and at least 190,000 jobs by 2020;
*will force at least a 13% rise in electricity prices by 2010, and at least a 19% rise in electricity prices by 2020; and
*will force at least a 9% rise in gasoline prices by 2010, and at least a 14% rise in gasoline prices by 2020.”

Mccain led the Gang of Fourteen

Which blocked the filerbusting of judicial nominations. In particular Roberts and Alito. Most republicans called them "the Seven sellouts"

Speaking on judges, three may be appointed by the next president. Mccain didnt like Alito because of his convervitism. During the past debates when asked about his negative comments on Alito he states he doesnt remember those comments and he would appoint judeges like him.

Roe v. Wade

I'll let Mccain speak for himself
“Speaking on Roe v. Wade [Aug. 25, 1999], McCain told the San Francisco Chronicle: ‘I’d love to see a point where it is irrelevant, and could be repealed because abortion is no longer necessary. But certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.’

I guess he doesnt support the repeal of Roe v Wade--but he is pro-life.

Same Sex Marriage

John McCain opposed the marriage protection amendment in 2004 and 2006.

Taxes

McCain oppossed the Bush tax cuts twice, stating it only cuts taxes for the wealthy. But during the debates he said it was because it wasnt coupled with spending cuts, funny he never spoke of spending cuts in 2001 or 2003.

McCain also blocked to end the Death tax in 2003.
He would not sign the Americans for Tax Reform pledge.
He stated in May 2007 that he would not vote to extend the tax cuts, but since he was on the campain trail he changed his tune.
In 2005 he said he was willing to raise the social security tax.
He raised cigarettes taxes 282%.

I also think it was funny that McCain couldn't make it back to Washington to vote for the stimulus package, but Obama and Clinton made time. McCain has also took a loan to run for president that in order to pay back he took out a second life insurance policy out--fiscally sound

Stem Cell Research

He also voted for the “Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007” The bill allowed federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research, regardless of the date when the cells were taken from the destroyed embryo. (President Bush limited federal funding to only stem cells that were derived by Aug. 9, 2001.)

Stem Cell research is done on aborted embryos--that is not pro-life.

Anti-Tobacco Act

He voted for anti-tobacco act which in essence fined tobacco companies for under-age smoking. It would not allow tobacco companies to advertise because advertisment only made youth want to smoke.

2nd Ammendment

Sponsered an anti-gun show bill in 2001 and again in 2003
In 2000 presidential campain he was anti handguns, and named his platform the anit-gunner, but in 2008 he is pro-guns.
